We learned that they both teach us a lesson. Here are some stories that we read: Writing: We finished our personal narrative final drafts. Then we began planning and writing our second personal narrative story. Math: We finished up chapter 5 on place value and took a test today! We had some fun reviewing the chapter with different math games and some yummy treats! Bible: We learned about the story of Ruth and how Ruth was loyal and faithful to Naomi and God provided for them!

We also reviewed that a verb shows action or a state of being. Students identified the verb in sentences and was able to tell the difference between a complete and incomplete sentence. Phonics: We learned that English words have powerful spelling patterns. If we learn how to spell one powerful pattern is can help us spell and read other words. We looked a poems with rhyming words and identified the pattern and came up with other words with the same pattern. Writing: We helped edit each others personal narratives and worked on our final draft of one of our personal narrative stories. Math: We learned how to write numbers in word form and problem solve. We also learned how to use skip counting to help us identify patterns in numbers. Science: We learned about the Ocean habitat this week. We learned that the ocean is made up of 3 main zones: sunlit, twilight, and midnight zones. They worked on figuring out what creatures lived in which zones. Bible: We finished up the story of Joshua. We learned about the Battle of Ai and when God made the sun stand still to give the Israelites victory. We learned that Joshua faithfully obeyed God and throughout his life, they were able to conquer and live in the Promised land again.
We had a great field trip on Monday to the Butterfly. I posted photos of your children on seesaw, so please check there if you would like to see some more photos. Here is a look at our week: Reading: We learned about Story elements: characters, setting, problem, and solution. Phonics: We learned what adverbs are and the difference between adverbs and adjectives. Writing: We learned how to use transition words in our stories and how to end our stories with a strong last sentence. Math: We began the next chapter on place value. We learned how to identify the value of a number and how to write it in model form and expanded form. Science: We learned that a habitat is the home of an animal. We learned about a pond habitat and identifies where specific creatures live in a pond habitat. Bible: We learned about Joshua, the new leader of Israel. We learned how a woman named Rahab protected Israelite spies and that Joshua trusted in God who took down the walls of Jericho. Important Information: 1.) We looked at different types of sentences and figured out which ones needed a period, comma, or exclamation point. Phonics: We learned that adjectives describe a noun. We played a mystery bag game where we had to describe what is in the bag to the class using adjectives. Writing: We learned about how to add dialogue to our personal narratives. We also learned that writers add details and use interesting words to make their stories more exciting. The students worked on replacing words like: fun, said, good with more interesting words Math: We finished up chapter 2 learning about even and odd numbers and the sum of equal numbers. We reviewed and took our test today! Bible: We finished up the story of Moses by learning about the 10 commandments, the golden calves, and how God chose Joshua to be the next leader of Israel. We learned about the 12 spies of Israel and how the Israelites had to wander in the wilderness for 40 years before entering the Promise Land. Hope you have a great weekend!
