Here is a look at our week: Reading: We learned how to retell a story. We looked for the characters, setting, beginning, middle, and end of each story we read. Here are a few of the fun stories we read this week to practice retelling stories. Writing: We worked on writing a good lead, or beginning, to our stories. We also started learning about dialogue. We learned how to punctuate dialogue and tried to add some to our stories. Math: We learned about equal groups and arrays this week.
Social Studies: We continued to learn about key features of maps and created our own maps of our classrooms and bedrooms. Bible: We continued learning about Moses. We learned how God saved the Israelites from Egypt and how God helped them pass through the Red Sea on dry land. Important Information: 1. Our Field Trip to the Butterfly Garden is on Monday, October 7th. If you have not sent in the permission slip, please do so by next Wednesday. 2. Our new monthly Bible verse is: Kind words are like honey. They are sweet to the spirit and bring healing to the body. Students looked for interesting words in their books. We also did an activity of pulling words from magazines to make our own sentences. Writing: This week we began rehearsing and drafting our first personal narrative story. Students learned how to break up a story into parts. We also set some goals for the future as we continue to write and edit our masterpieces. Math: We finished reviewing chapter 1 and took our test. We began chapter 2 on Friday by learning to Skip count by 2s, 5s, and 10s on a Hundreds chart. Social Studies: 2.2 class had their first social studies class with Ms. Guiles. They learned how to read a map. Bible: We began the story of Moses this week. We learned about how God protected Moses as a baby in the Nile River and how God spoke to Moses at the Burning Bush. God was going to use Moses to deliver His people from Egypt. Important Information:
1. Picture Day this Monday 9/23 at 9:00am! 2. Field Trip Permission Slips and Parent volunteer forms went home today (2 sheets of paper)! Please make sure to check your child's folder and return it signed as soon as you can. . Field trip is on October 7th! 3. Scholastic Book Order: An order was made for all the books today. Thank you for all your book orders! Because of your orders, I was able to order a few new books for our classroom library that the students will enjoy. The books should in the next few weeks and I will make sure to send your books home with your child! Mrs. Lyons Here is a look at our week: Reading: We learned how to read difficult words by looking for blends at the beginning or end of words, breaking words into syllables, or looking for words within the difficult word. We made began practicing Reading to Someone this week! Phonics: We reviewed our vowel teams and looked for them within poems! Writing: We learned what a personal narrative is. We practiced coming up with good story ideas by thinking up memories with special people and memories from specific types of emotions. Math: We learned how to solve problems with missing addends. We learned about fact families and two step word problems. On Friday, we reviewed the chapter by solving clues to get an escape code. We will have our Chapter 1 Math test next Thursday. Science: We learned that not only to Butterflies have a egg, larva, pupa, and adult stage but other insects do too. We also watched our 2nd caterpillar turn into a chrysalis. Bible: We learned about Abraham and Lot, and we learned about prayer. We learned that we can praise, ask, say sorry, and give thanks in our prayers. We had different prayer stations on Thursday where we practiced each of those things. Important Information:

We also learned how to check for understanding as we read our books. Writing: In writing, we reviewed what makes a complete sentence, what gets a capital letter, how to punctuate, and how to make compound sentences. Phonics: We reviewed the silent e and long and short vowels. Math: We worked on our addition and subtraction facts this week. Bible: We learned about Abraham and how he obeyed God and moved to a new place. We also learned that God always keeps His promises and takes care of us. Science: We learned about the Butterfly life cycle and thanks to Boaz's family, are now able to watch the whole process of the life cycle with our 3 caterpillars and 3 chrysalises in our classroom!
