Here's a look at our week: Reading: We began to look at characters in stories and compare and contrast them noticing their similarities and differences. Writing and SCIENCE!!: It's been awhile since we have had science class due to preparation for Kids City. However, now we have started again and doing fun science experiments in both Science class and writing time. In writing, we are learning how to create lab reports so we need to perform experiments to do so. This week, we looked at solids and the different properties and materials solids are made of. We learned some solids are man-made while others are natural. Then we had a challenge to answer the question: What materials are best to use to create a stable tower to withstand wind? In groups, they created a hypothesis and built their towers with those materials. Then, on Friday they had fun testing the experiment! All groups did really well, I was very proud of their work. Here are some fun pictures from it.
Math: We continued to learn how to measure objects and practiced measuring things in inches, feet, and yards. The students created a city on paper with different size buildings and practiced measuring those buildings correctly. Bible: We learned about Pentacost and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. We talked about how we have the gift of love through the Holy Spirit, knowing truth in the Bible, and becoming part of the family of God. Penpal letters: We finally got letters back from our penpals in the States. There was trouble in the mail so it took much longer than expected, but we were very excited to read our letters from our friends in the USA. Earned a prize!: The students earned a reward for making all the classroom calls quietly this week. So we had lunch outside together and I made some chocolate chip muffin treats.
