Important Information 1.) Our 1st and 2nd grade Harvest Day will be Wednesday, November 27th. We will be learning about Thanksgiving through different crafts and activities. We will also be having pie day! We are still in need of two more people to sign up to bring a pie. If you are willing that would be great. Christmas Program permission slips: Slips were sent home today to ride the bus for Christmas program practice. The red slip also notifies us who will be going home with parents after the program and who needs a ride back to school. Please check your child's folder and return as soon as you can. 3.) Scholastic Book Order: Thank you for those who put in some orders with Scholastic. We should be receiving that order soon and I was able to order a few more books for our classroom library because of it! 4.) Monthly Bible Verse (Test on Tuesday 11/26): Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Upcoming Dates: 11/27 - 1st and 2nd Grade Harvest Day/Pie Day 11/28-11/29 - Thanksgiving Holiday 12/18 - Christmas Program and Early Dismissal Here is a look at our week: Reading: This week we learned how to sequence a story together using the words: first, then, next, finally, at last, etc. Phonics: We learned that the /ik/ sound is often spelled either ick or ic at the end of a word. The spelling ic is usually within two syllable words like picnic or garlic, and the spelling ick is within one syllable words like pick or stick. Writing: We had a celebration time of our personal narrative stories. We shared our stories with the 2.1 class on Monday. We began learning how to write poems. We learned that poets see with their hearts and minds. We practiced observing different objects to create poems from. Math: We began learning how to subtract two-digit numbers. We learned a little saying to help us know when we need to regroup or not. Bible: We learned about Ezra and Nehemiah. We learned how God protected the Israelites as they built the wall again around Jerusalem. We learned that Ezra read the Law again to the Israelites so that they might follow it. Social Skills: We are continuing to learn about RESPECT this quarter. We learned that one aspect of respect is polite manners. We also spent some time writing thank you cards to other teachers and staff at the school for what they do. We will give them their cards next week! Have a great weekend!

1.) New Student in our class: A new student will be joining us starting Monday, Levi VanBeusekom. That will make our class complete with 22 students, 15 boys and 7 girls! 2.) Scholastic Book Order: One more week to order books on Scholastic! Make sure the order is under Lyons 2.2 to help our class earn reward points. The last day to order will be Friday, November 22nd. 3.) Phonics: We learned the difference between the hard and soft sounds of C and G. We learned that the soft sound is usually followed by the letter e, i, or y. Writing: This week we edited and published our last personal narrative! On Monday we will have a chance to share our published stories to the other 2nd grade class! Math: We finished learning about two-digit addition and took our chapter 3 test. Science: We learned about the Rainforest Biome! Bible: We learned about Elijah's contest with the prophets of Baal to see whose god was the true God. We learned that God is the true God who answers our prayers! Have a great weekend! We read some books and looked for the important parts so that we could tell the story again to a friend. Writing: We finished writing our personal narratives! Next week we will edit and publish our stories. Phonics: We learned about syllables. We practiced saying words and breaking them into different parts. Math: We learned how to add three and four two-digit numbers together. We also worked on addition word problems. Bible: We learned about Elijah. We learned how God provided for Elijah during the drought by sending ravens to feed him. We also learned how God provided for the widow and her son during the drought by doing a miracle--her jar of oil and flour would never run out! Science: We learned about the Desert Biome. We learned that biome means a large area of land with special features. So a desert biome is dry, sunny, has very little rain, etc. We also learned what types of plants and animals live in the desert. Have a great 3 day weekend! Mrs. Lyons Important Information: 1.) We looked for clues in the pictures and text, to make a good guess of what would happen next. We read some fun books to make predictions! Their favorite was That's Not a Good Idea by Mo Willems. We also added our final station to Daily 5: Word Work! Students each get a ring of sight words that they are working on how to read and spell. Writing: We continued working on our rough draft of our 2nd personal narrative story. We reviewed how to punctuate dialogue and add more details to our stories. We set some new goals after looking at our first personal narrative story with Mrs. Lyons. Math: We started a new chapter learning how to add two-digit numbers with regrouping. We learned how to regroup the ones to tens. Bible: We learned about life of David and how David trusted in God even when it was difficult as he faced Goliath and ran away from Saul. We learned how God protected David and gave him strength. Social Studies: We learned more about South America and made a fun instrument with Ms. Guiles! Social Emotional Skills: This quarter we are focusing on respect. This week we talked about what respect looks like and sounds like.
