Reading: We took some extra time reviewing the difference between an adjective and adverb and how to use them correctly in a sentence. We also began a chapter book read aloud called The Year of Billy Miller. Writing/Science: We did a science experiment to answer the question: Is toothpaste a solid or a liquid? We wrote our hypothesis and then put toothpaste in water to see what would happen. We shook the bottle to see how the toothpaste changed and then waited until the next day to see what happened. Lastly we put some of the mixture into a container to evaporate. Students found out that toothpaste is both a solid and a liquid. We finished up writing our 4th lab report on this experiment. Math: We learned about 3D shapes. We learned the properties of a cube, sphere, rectangular prism, cylinder, cone, and pyramid. Bible: We finished up talking about Paul's missionary journey with his shipwreck on the island of Malta and how God provided and protected him during this time. We began talking about the Fruits of the Spirit. We talked about about Love this week and how love is sacrifice: putting others first. Science: We learned what solid particles are and how we can separate them using different strainers. We were given a "soup mix" of various beans, rice, and cornmeal and a few size strainers to separate them into their 5 ingredients. Important Information

Mrs. Lyons Here's a look at our week: Reading: We looked at several different versions of the Three Little Pigs like Wait, No Paint!, The Three Little Javelinas, No Lie Pigs (and their houses) can Fly!, and The Three Little Pigs: An Architectural Tale. We also took our final DRA reading levels tests and it was great to see the improvements each student made this year. Writing/Science: We learned how solids interact with water this week. Each group was given a solid and stuck it in water to see how it reacted. They worked on writing a two part hypothesis and wrote observations of their solids in water each day. Today we strained the solid from the water and will see on Monday if their solid is able to return to its original state. Math: We finished our Measurement chapter and took a test. We started a new chapter on Shapes and fractions! We learned about 2-dimensional shapes: quadrilaterals, parallelograms, trapezoids, hexagons, and octagons. Students had fun creating their own pictures out of shape blocks! Bible: We learned about Paul's First Missionary Journey this week. We talked about how God protected Paul and Barnabas through many trials. We also talked about how the gospel was reaching many Gentiles hearts.

Have a great weekend! Mrs. Lyons Happy Mother's Day to all the wonderful mom's in this class! Thank you for loving and caring for your children and sharing them with me in the classroom each day. Hope you enjoyed the little gifts your kids created on Friday! (hopefully the crafts made it home in one piece and didn't break! I told the students I wouldn't post on the blog until Sunday so that the surprise wouldn't be ruined for those giving their gifts on Sunday to their mom :)) Here's a look at our week: Reading: We continued to compare and contrast different versions of stories. This week we focused on versions of Cinderella. We read Cinderella's Big Foot, Cinderella and the Incredible Techno Slippers, Seriously Cinderella is So Annoying!, and compared it to the disney version of Cinderella. Writing/Science: We continued working on our lab reports in writing and improving how we write details and our conclusions. This week we tested our bridges we created to see which bridge was stable enough to hold 10 wooden blocks. Some bridges were stable, other bridges the students learned and thought about how they might make it different next time so that it could hold the weight. Math: We continued our Measuring unit in math learning how to use a number line and line plots to measure and compare objects. We also had a "Measuring Olympics" match this week using little pom poms, the students had to measure and record how far the pom poms went when they blew, kicked, flicked, etc. them! **Also we will be having our chapter 11 test on measurement on Tuesday (5/14)** Bible: In Bible, we learned how God heard the prayers of Peter and his family/friends while he was in Jail and delivered him from prison. We learned of the amazing conversion story of Saul (Paul) who was persecuting Christians but God used to save many Christians later in his life. Happy Children's Day! Hope you had a wonderful long weekend! Here's a look at last week: Reading: We learned how to compare and contrast different versions of a story. We read several versions of Little Red Riding Hood and worked together to tell what was the same and different about the stories. Writing/Science: We started our second lab report! This time we are answering the question: What materials will make a stable bridge that can hold the most weight? We spent the week picking out materials, planning our bridges, and starting to build them. We also learned about different properties of liquids in science class: thin, thick, translucent, transparent, bubbly, foamy, colored, colorless, and viscous. Math: This week was all about centimeters and meters. We learned how to measure in centimeters and how to convert to meters. We also learned when to use a ruler and when to use a meter stick.
Bible: We learned about Stephen and Philip this week. Stephen was the first martyr of the early church and we learned how the Holy Spirit helped him not to be afraid. We also learned about Philip and how he followed the directions of the Holy Spirit to go out and speak to the Ethiopian man about Jesus. Because of this, the Ethiopian was saved. We learned that we should listen to God's directions and not miss opportunities to share about Jesus with others. Important Information: 1.
