We had an AWESOME field trip to Kurashiki Dam on Thursday! Thank you to all the parents who came to help out and keep our class safe. I loved that the students even made their own dams in the stream (application of the learning = success) Here's a look at the rest of our week: Reading: We added Listen to Reading to our Daily 5 time. During this time we used Kids A-Z on the computer and listened to books. We also read several stories and found the problem and solution. Writing: This week we finished our Narrative Writing Unit. We learned how to replace "tired words" that we use too much with stronger words. Then on Friday we fixed up our favorite story to turn in. Math: We learned how to add two, three, and four two-digit numbers. We practiced adding by pretending to go to a restaurant and adding up how much money we needed to buy our items. Next week we will have our Chapter 3 test. Bible: We finished learning about the Old Testament. We learned how God brought the people back from exile in three different groups. The first group came back and rebuilt the temple. The second group came back and rebuilt the walls around Jerusalem. When the third group came back they found the law of God. Science: We started learning about how plants change and grow. We played a fun card game where we had to match the seed to its full grown plant. We also read a fun story called Plantzilla. Reading: We learned to identify the problem and solution in stories. We also began having the choice of read to self, read to someone, and book shopping during our Daily 5 time. Writing: We learned how to write more powerfully by describing what we see, hear, and feel. We worked on adding more details by picking one of those things (seeing, hearing, or feeling) and putting those details within our narratives. Math: We began chapter 3 and are starting to learn how to regroup and add two-digit numbers! Bible: We learned about the divided nation of Israel and its many evil kings. We talked about Elijah the prophet and how he showed Israel many times how God is the true God and their Provider. Sadly the Israelite nation did not listen or heed to God's commands.
