Happy New year! We had a great start back to school. I was not the at school the past three days due to my parents visiting from America, but I had great report from the substitute! Look forward to being back fully on Monday! Important Information: 1.) Kite Day and Parent Observation Day on Monday (1/13): You are welcome to come and visit our class from 9:00-10:30 on Monday and see what we do during our morning time. We will also be flying kites outside from 9:30-10:00 out on the big soccer field. Please send a kite to school with your child for this time. If you are free to come and fly a kite with your child, they will love that time with you! 2.) OCSI's Spirit Week (1/21-1/24): The High School and Middle School has invited all Elementary Students to participate. This is not mandatory, but if your student would like to dress up they are welcome to do so. Here are the days:

Class Christmas Party: We will be having a Christmas party on 12/17 from 2:15-3:00. This year we are asking for students to bring some kind of dessert or snack to share with the class. Christmas Program: The program is THIS Wednesday, December 18 at 10:30am at Yomitan Cultural Center. This day is also an early dismissal day with school ending at 12:30pm. On this day there will be no lunch. We are also asking that students DO NOT bring anything with them to school as we will be going to the Christmas Program after about an hour of class time. That means no backpacks, water bottles, folders, lunch, etc. Please leave them at home. Thank you! We are also working hard on practicing our Christmas Puppet Show that we will record on Monday and can't wait to share with you. Here are some of the books we read: Writing: We continued writing poems. We learned what a couplet was and created our own. As well as an acrostic poem and a poem about ourselves. Math: This week we had fun reviewing some of our Math concepts we've already learned. We played some Christmas themed math games. Science: We continued to learn about plants. We created a plant booklet together. Bible: We learned more about the Christmas Story. We learned how the Shepherds were to first visit Baby Jesus, how Simeon and Anna had been eagerly awaiting their arrival in the temple, and how the Wise traveled from a far following a Star to visit Jesus and bring him precious gifts. Christmas Activities: We also had some fun creating a few Christmas crafts. Some stockings and a surprise one, that'll the kids will show you later :) Have a great weekend!
