Although I was sick on Thursday and Friday, this week was a great one packed with learning. (and I am feeling much better today!) I got good reports from the substitutes as well! Here is a little bit about what we learned. Check back here on Monday for next week's homework. However, I will list the spelling and memory verse for next week at the bottom of this post.
Reading: We are continuing to work on Reading to ourselves for 20 minutes. We have made it to 15.5 minutes so far and are getting close to our 20 minute goal. We have also practiced reading to a partner and checking our understanding of who the story is about and what happened. In phonics, we played a fun sticky note game (see below) figuring out what words have short i and long i sounds.
Writing: We started writing narrative stories! We learned how to plan out our parts across our fingers and write about each part.
Math: We have continued to practice our addition skills and learned about subtraction as well. We also practiced our math facts on Xtramath.com during computer lab time.
Science: We are learning all about Habitats. We talked about what belongs in a shallow ocean water habitat. (below shows what we created last week of their pond "habitat". We had to create creatures that belong in a pond and identify where exactly it belongs within the whole pond.)
Bible: We learned about Abraham this week. We learned that God always keeps His promises and that we need to trust Him even when we don't understand.
Next Week's Spelling and Bible Verse:
Spelling Words: hidden, grass, hill, stuff, hammer, bless, kitten, ribbon, pizza, cliff, two, Monday
Bible Memory Verse: “So do not be afraid. I am your God. I will make you strong and help you. I will hold you safe in my hands.” Isaiah 41:10
They were sent home today in your child's backpack! We try to wear these shirts on Fridays and when we go on Field Trips.
