IMPORTANT UPDATE: 1.) Please check your email for an important update from Mrs. Roe regarding school. We WILL have school on Monday (3/30), but then we will start Spring Break early on Tuesday (3/31). We will come back to school on April 13th. We encourage you to practice social distancing during this time. Although I am sad we won't be having school, I am grateful we are taking precautions to help keep our families and community safe. 2.) Field Trip to Aquarium CANCELED: With a sad heart, I must announce that the field trip to the Churaumi Aquarium has been CANCELED due to the current measures to keep our community safe. We are trying to figure out another field trip option that involves being outside. I will let you know as soon as I can! 3.) As said last week, Kid City will be moving to April 24th. More information will be coming after Spring Break. On April 21st from 3:15-4:15 we will have some time to get ready for Kid City. If you are able to come and help us with gluing, sorting, and other preparations please let me know by email! 4.) Here is a look at our week: We did still have a fun full week of school and ended it with a popcorn movie party for our Reading Olympic Prize today! They got to watch Snoopy and Charlie Brown: The Peanuts Movie and eat popcorn! It was great fun! Reading: We learned about Text Features. These are special parts of nonfiction books that help us find important information.
Writing: We started writing Nominations for our favorite books. Next week we will ask Miss Turner to pick the best Nominations and that book will win an award. Math: We learned our 3D shapes this week and how many edges, faces, and vertices each one has. We even had fun creating 3D shapes out of paper! Students realized they had to be very exact with their measurements for their shape to work! Bible: We learned about Jesus dying on the cross for our sins. We learned that Jesus died because He loves us and so that we could be with God again. Have a great weekend! See you on Monday for one last day before break! A look at our week: We did a lot of reviewing from our 2 weeks online: Math: We took a test on Graphing and reviewed our 2D shapes with a fun TACO craft. Check out Seesaw for some pictures! Reading: We reviewed Main Idea and also began learning about Text Features in Non-Fiction books. We learned what the Table of Contents, Glossary, and Index are and how to use them. Phonics: We learned about the Long i vowel teams like: -i_e, -y, -igh, -ie, and i. We practiced editing passages with incorrect spelling. Bible: We learned about about what happened on Tuesday of Passion Week (the week before Jesus died on the cross). We learned that Jesus told a Parable of the Wicked Renters and foretold his death. Finally, we also got the exciting news that our class won the most minutes read for Reading Olympic Challenge! We will get a movie and popcorn party on Friday 3/27!

Starting Tuesday we will be switching to online schooling (Monday will be a Teacher work day to prepare for it). I will be using Seesaw to communicate with you. Each day I will post a video along with the assignments that your child should complete that day. I have also sent home some things to make this month of online schooling easier. As some of your children have probably shared, I have been out of class this whole week, both in the hospital and recovering from home. Thank you for praying for me. I am doing much better and grateful for the care received at the hospital and time to recover fully. It was certainly a crazy 3-day weekend with this unexpected health scare. I am excited to get back into the classroom on Monday and have missed your kids! Thank you for your patience in the meantime while I have been gone. Here are some important upcoming things! 3.) Reading Olympics Challenge (2/14-2/27): Students will log minutes read at home February 14-27. Hope they have been reading lots this past week while I have been gone :) Winning class will get movie/popcorn party. If total elementary minutes reaches 40,000, principal will eat an Olympic Sundae! :) Every student who participates will receive a prize (coupon).
4.) Family Reading Night 2/27: This Thursday, OCSI will have a family reading night from 5:00-6:00 pm. There will be activities for the students and each student will receive a free book if they come and participate! 5.) Bible Verse for February: "See what amazing love the Father has given us!
