11/29 On Thursday, students need to arrive at school at regular time with a home lunch and a water bottle. The students will go to their classrooms then board a bus to the Uruma Hall. We will practice at the hall until 1:30 and return to school. Please make sure you have sent back to permission slip!

And of course we enjoyed lots of pie! Thank you to all the parents who brought in pie and also for the parents who came to help out! All students will need to bring a home lunch. 4. Next Friday (November 30th) is our annual 1st-5th Christmas Program. This year it is at the Uruma Citizens' Art Theater. Students need to arrive by 5:30 unless they have a speaking or solo (then they need to arrive at 5:15). Please make sure your student is dressed up for this event. School will end at 12:30pm on this day to give students time to get home and then get to the theater. All of the elementary classes were able to make fill many shoe boxes. These gifts will be a blessing to children in the Philippines for Christmas! Today we said a sad goodbye to Jonas in our class and had a little farewell party for him and celebrated our wonderful teacher assistant, Alicia Erler's, birthday! We are grateful for Alicia's help in both of the 2nd grade classrooms and we will certainly miss having Jonas be a part of our class. Here's a look at our week: Reading: We practiced summarizing stories using the trick "Someone, Wanted, But, So, Then" to help us remember the key parts of a story. Our class "pet" named Jojo continues to look for quiet readers to read with during Daily 5. Writing: We have continued to write letters practicing our opinions of book characters. We are working on explaining WHY a character has a certain character trait and explaining parts of the book to give reasons. We created Character Trait People and gave evidence for their character traits. We also sent our video to our pen pals in America and look forward to writing to them! Math: We have continued to work on two-digit subtraction with regrouping, learning how to check our subtraction with addition and how to solve word problems that involve two steps! Science: We continued to learn more about the Butterfly cycle and learned that all insects have a life cycle. WE learned of several others that have the egg, larva, pupa, and adult stage such as a bee, ladybug, fly, and dragonfly. We worked together in groups to make a complete life cycle! Bible: We learned about how the shepherds were the first to hear the news of Jesus's birth. We talked about the word humble, and how Jesus humbled himself to come to this earth and save us and even his birth was done in humility. We talked about Simeon and Anna expectation of the Messiah and their joy when they met baby Jesus. We have continued to work hard for the Christmas Program as well!

Mrs. Lyons Here's a look at our week: We had a special visitor visit us on Friday, a Red Cross certified dog named Ace! We loved story time and a chance to pet him! Reading: We learned how to make prediction of books using clues from the illustrations and words. They especially loved reading That Is NOT a Good Idea! by Mo Willems which has a surprise ending! Writing: We have begun practicing how to write a letter, made a video to send to our Pen Pal class in America, and are learning how to share opinions within our writing, like what our favorite book character is. Math: We are working on our two digit subtraction with regrouping. We learned a fun poem to help us know when we need to borrow and did a fun activity to help us remember. See below: Science: We learned about the life cycle of a butterfly and made a fun butterfly craft to learn the names of each stage of the cycle! Bible: We have jumped into the New Testament learning about the events leading up to the birth of Jesus. We learned about Zechariah and Mary and the angel Gabriel visiting both of them.
